Meniscal/Articular Cartilage

The menisci are two pieces of rubbery cartilage in the knee that work to absorb shock between your tibia (shin bone) and femur (thigh bone). Meniscus injuries are a very common knee injury that can present as lateral (outside) knee pain, medial (inside) knee pain, or both. The pain can begin after a traumatic injury in all ages of patients such as falling, or the knee twisting while playing sports. In the aging population a meniscus tear can happen due to degeneration (breakdown) of the cartilage with aging and then an activity such as standing up from a chair can be the straw that broke the camel’s back. Typical symptoms felt by patients are: aching while at rest, clicking or catching with movement, pain with twisting, squatting, stairs, running and unsteadiness or a feeling that your knee will give out. Additionally, patients may experience their knee getting stuck in a bent position with a sharp pain when trying to straighten it out.

Physical Therapy can help patients with meniscus problems by first working to decrease pain and increase the motion in the knee by providing exercises that move the joint as well as stretch out all the muscles that surround the knee. Next the therapist will work with the patient to begin to increase the strength and stability in the knee while additionally providing exercises that address limitations the therapist identified in the patient’s ankle and hip that could have been a factor leading to more pressure and load going through the patient’s knee. As the patient begins to get more strength, stability and motion the PT will progressively load the patient to be able to tolerate and have confidence with twisting, cutting, bending, and faster movements to be able to return to the patient's desired activities

Nick was so attentive to my needs and he structured his schedule to fit mine. My therapy was focused on my strengths and weaknesses; therefore, my recovery time was much shorter than expected. I highly recommend Nevada Physical Therapy for any lingering pain you may be experiencing.

The best Physical Therapy place I have ever visited. Rare to see an emphasis on finding the best method to improve injury instead of giving everyone the same plan. But the best part about this place is it's approach to well being during and after PT.

I was referred to Brian Fearnley by someone with significant credibility. I consider working with Brian a huge stroke of luck. This specific 'PT' is increasing my recovery potential a hundred fold. Brian knows his stuff. He is well versed in PT. He has athletic history at UNR and is active in our local community. He is clearly in this profession to help people recover and get under their own power.

After two plus years of hip pain, three other physical therapists, quarterly injections and no relief, Crista made the pain go away! If I could give her and this practice 10 stars I'd do it!

Phenomenal. I had some brutal injuries that resulted in four surgeries and seriously disrupted my life. There can be no doubt that the quality of life I enjoy today was a direct result of working with Nevada Physical Therapy.
